Software Mansion Hackathon 2024
Klaudia Pajak•Apr 16, 2024•4 min readWe frequently cooperate with local universities in various ways, including organizing events for students to get to know Software Mansion and learn from our experience.
A hackathon is a great way to do exactly those things: get the young generation familiar with Software Mansion and teach them one or two things. A few weeks ago, over 60 participants divided into 13 teams worked on apps that were meant to make living in Cracow easier. It was a day full of creative concepts, fun, and coding, all of it in a unique atmosphere with delicious food options — as stated by the attendees themselves :)
Since the emotions have already worn off we wanted to share a sneak peek of the event with you 🔎

The participants put their great minds and problem-solving skills to the test, designing innovative solutions for making life in this vibrant city even more enjoyable. The topic gave room for incredible ideas, such that were more conventional, and those rather outside the box as well.
Throughout the entirety of the event, mentors from Software Mansion were always on hand, eager to guide and support the coders. With their wide knowledge and experience, they provided advice and aided the participants with their challenges, steering their projects through the treacherous waters toward success.

Each team delivered outstanding results, starting with the concepts, following with the coding itself, and finishing by presenting it to everyone else. All of their efforts showed us true motivation and real hard work behind the projects. The competition was fierce, and the proposed solutions were truly diverse!
Here’s a full list of the teams & their ideas:
- Galop KucykOwO — Active Senior (an app to increase the activity of seniors, facilitating and organizing joint activities or finding help with everyday duties);
- Brute Forces — Krak_BUCKS (an app used to find and summarize discounts or bargain prices for students);
- Kwiatuszki — Obwarzanki Map (an app mapping pretzel stands);
- Tocjent — OnlyFlanks (a map of the AGH student dormitory campus for organizing and searching for a game of “Flanki”);
- BBC sp. z o.o. — Rent Radar (an app that makes it easier to find an apartment/room for rent based on specific guidelines);
- Mighty Warriors — MyCityCare (an app for reposting and improving obstacles in the immediate area);
- Drużyna — CodeTeamFinder (an app used to search for IT projects, which you can join and write applications/games together);
- ARPEVOD — BiedrWise (an app for dividing shopping expenses based on a photo of the receipt);
- Kapelusiki — Evder (an app for arranging events and joint activities with friends);
- Amatorzy — WiggleGym (an app collecting a list of all sports opportunities in the city);
- SKNI KOD Prz x UJ x AGH — Safezone Kraków (an app with the live data locations of hooligans, created so that people can avoid them);
- Wietaminki — KrakVenture (a map divided into city areas, filtering the type of sport that can be practiced there);
- Komputerowi Kowboje — KanarSpy (an app with the live locations of ticket inspectors in public transport).
Although all the applications were impressive, there could only be one champion. The victorious team was Kwiatuszki, who combined their technical skills with the local theme, developing an app that created a map of pretzel stands in Kraków. It provided locations, detailed pricing information, and variants of local pretzels: obwarzanki, giving Kraków residents and visitors easy access to one of the city’s most cherished culinary traditions. Kudos to them for their effort and the idea!

The rewards for the winners are also certainly worth mentioning. The prizes were tickets to the App.js 2024 conference and Software Mansion merchandise.
To wrap it up, the Software Mansion Hackathon 2024 showcased young minds and their ability to leverage technology for practical solutions applicable to the local environment. We aim to invest in the future generation of technology talents by organizing events and initiatives for students and young developers. We recognize that today’s students are tomorrow’s industry leaders, and it is our pleasure to nurture and fuel their journey in the realm of technology.
Keep an eye out for our upcoming events!
